So the Cyclones will have to wait another season for that all elusive championship.
It looked like they will make it and be crowned McNamara Champions, making the playoffs, but a two game sweep by the eventual champs Aberdeen sent Brooklyn to wait for Next Year.
But they still had a chance to make it, but then the Staten Island Yankees were waiting to play spoiler.
“When you know you are not going to the postseason, there is only one other goal, and that’s to try and play spoiler,” Baby Bombers third baseman Eric Jagielo, New York’s first-round pick in the June MLB Draft, told the Staten Island Advance after belting a two-run homer in the final meeting between the Verrazano rivals.
And then Aberdeen came in and sealed Brooklyn’s fate.
The Cyclones were joined by the Mets Jeurys Familia who is rehabbing an elbow injury. He played in the two games and then moved onto other parts of the organization.
Mets manager Terry Collins said there is a chance he will be playing for the Mets before the end of the season.
But now ends another Cyclones season. On the bright now they snapped their five game losing streak with a win up in Troy taking on the Tri-City Valley Cats.
Cyclones, didn’t make the playoffs for only the fourth time in 13 seasons of franchise history. There is no way to get the top online betting with that.
They finished with an over .500 record for the 13th season in a row, a 38-37 record on the season. Brooklyn is one of only four teams in affiliated baseball, joining the Arizona League Giants, Elizabethton Twins and New York Yankees, as the only teams to never finish below .500 since 2001.
Season 14 starts next June at MCU Park. The Cyclones are the Mets Short Season A club playing in the New York-Penn League.
They won their only championship in 2001.
